Education System in UK

Undergraduate Courses and Postgraduate programs

The different types of undergraduate degree courses to study in UK are:

  • Honours degree: In-depth study of one subject. Duration – 3 to 4 years.
  • Joint Honours degree: In-depth study of two subjects. Duration – 3 to 4 years.
  • Combined honors degree: Where two or more subjects are studied at less advanced level. Duration is 3-4 years.
  • Sandwich course: After 2 or 3 years, you can take one year off from the College or University to gain work experience and then join back to complete the final year. Duration is 4-5 years.
  • Foundation course: It is a higher qualification directly related to employment such as design. Duration- 2 years.

Note: The 4-year education takes place in Scotland.

Postgraduate degrees to study in UK:

A postgraduate program is usually for either 1 or 2 years depending on the course to be undertaken. Completion of a Doctorate degree usually takes a minimum of 3 years.

BTECH (Business and Technology education council)- – Offers recognized courses in a variety of disciplines. Many Universities accept these certificates and diplomas as an alternative to “A” levels or even in the 1st year.
